And the picture of the day is...

The Girl with the Pearl Earring!

By Johannes Vermeer (Go down for more.)

The Girl with the Peal Earing is known as one of Vermeer's best works. this Dutch painter also did many other paintings. I wish I could write more on this great artist, but not much is known about him. :-( The identity of the girl is unsure, but by some people it is thought to be Vermeer's daughter Maria. This beautiful painting is oil on canvas.

Chloe, I could not open your Test # 1. I commented on your Girl With The Earring. I, too love to write and am writing my memoirs. My daughter wrote many pieces about growing up, the year + she spent studying in Germany, Switzerland and Paris and also her days at Vassar College and meeting the man who would become her husband when he graduated from Yale College. Many were published. She does not write anymore and I am sorry she gave it up. Also I keep a journal and that would be a good thing for you to start. Journally is fun, but a discipline and something you can do all your life. For instance a good start would be to write how you feel about your new little sister coming home to your warm, caring family and how you all greeted her. My sister had six brothers and she write a little piece about how thrilled she was when her mother brought home me, a sister. We cherished that little note throughout our family life.

This is in my journal today. This morning when I was watering my flowers I saw a beautiful white butterfly on my rosebush. I stopped watering and sat an watched that butterfly. I remembered when I was a girl that the kids caught butterflies and lightening bugs and put them in a jar. We had little holes punched in the lid to give them air. Now, today, I am very sorry that I caught butterflies and lightening bugs. I wished that my mother had told me that it was better to watch them or if I must catch them and let them go. I was very happy to watch the butterfly as it just made my day. Then, a sad thing happened. I opened my garden gate to get the morning paper and I saw a sad sight that brought tears to my eyes. Yes, grandmothers and greatgrandmothers do cry! There was a little duck that had been hit by an automobile and the little duck was dying. I called my Vet to see if he could do anything for it, but he told me he could not save it. I scooped it up with a shovel and put it in a little basket so it could not get hurt again. The little duck died and it made me very sad.
